Hello , I’m Doug Kelly and I’m running for Town Council because I think I have the experience and skills needed to turn Fairfax from its current direction to a better, more respectful and positive manner.
Let me start by saying, yes, I am a new resident. It’s also true that for the last 28 years I have never lived more than 1.3 miles from Fairfax Town Hall.
I coached our kids starting with the Fairfax Park and Rec program with the six and seven years olds playing bambino baseball. I coached for eight years and led my team to the SABA championship coaching Team Police.
My three boys attended Brookside, Whitehill and graduated from Archie Wiliams (then Drake). My former wife, Cori, was the librarian at Brookside lower and then the Administrative Aide at Whitehill.
I volunteered my time for many years providing free credit card machines and support at Octoberfest and Winterfest.
I was elected to the Ross Valley Sanitary District in March of 2016, much thanks to huge support from Fairfax . I ran unopposed in 2020 and again in 2024. I don’t think elected folks should stay too long and I have publicly stated that I will not run for a fourth term.
Ross Valley is a “collection agency” we don’t treat sewage. Together with the Town of Corte Madera and the City of San Rafael we build the Central Marin Sanitation Agency and my RVSD Board members appointed me to serve on the CMSA Board of Commissioners.
Recently RVSD was named the “Collection Agency of the Year for the State of California (Small District Division). We have also won awards for our Financial Reporting for both agencies. We came in 2nd Statewide for my project of Public Service Announcements on local TV and YouTube Ads and on the Marin IJ website.

The Marin IJ noted this success in an article, an editorial and a Dick Spotswood column.

I also have served for years on the Board of Directors of the Coalition of Sensible Taxpayers (formerly known as CO$T). We have done a lot of great work (also noted by the IJ) to lower taxes. We now have many towns, schools and agencies come to us before they write their tax measures. We sometimes can endorse a tax measure such as the Fire Tax. This fall we endorsed two measures and opposed a slew. (Please vote against Measure 5 on the State Ballot!).
In the past I have served on the
· San Anselmo Town Council,
· the San Anselmo Park and Recreation Committee,
· the Governing Board of the Marin Emergency Radio Authority,
· the Ross Valley Fire Board,
· the Central Marin Police Board,
· the California League of Cities Public Policy Safety Committee.
In my business life I spent 15 years as a Restaurant Manager on the East Coast before moving to Marin in 1992. I was hired then by Pacific Cash Register which was based in San Francisco. In 2001 my business partner and I purchased the company and moved it to San Rafael and renamed it Performance POS.
In the middle of the pandemic, we sold Performance POS to SpotOn which is a nationwide Point of Sale Company based in San Francisco. All of our employees had their jobs saved and they and I now work for SpotOn.
I have had clients that have stayed with me for decades, including 34 years as the vendor for the Fairfax Coffee Roastery. The House of Prime Rib for over 30 years. I have always been the vendor for Insalata’s. Moylan’s since it opened and also we were the only vendors for Marin Brewing Co.
Some other local customers are Java Hut, Amelie Café, Fairfix Café, and several others in progress!
I hope that you will give me your support and your vote! Thank you.
